Car Insurance Porsche (Car Insurance). why does a car use more fuel per 100km when it travels at 70mph than at 60mph?

why does a car use more fuel per 100km when it travels at 70mph than at 60mph? it was a question in my science test and i put the answer : because it needs more fuel to go faster. and it was marked wrong just want to know for future reference thanks xx

The Engine is working harder at 70 than at 60 so more fuel is required the engine works harder to make the car go faster, so it uses more petrol. The harder you make it work, the more petrol you'll use. You're right, actually, but probably needed an explanation... An engine needs more fuel to go the same distance at higher speeds because it has to work harder to keep a vehicle at higher speeds. Think of your body. You use less energy per 100 yards of walking than you would per 100 yards of running.... Same distance, but more energy is used the faster you need to propel your weight... Hope this answers your question! The real answer is quite complicated. There's a complex algorithm that goes into fuel consumption involving the engines powerband, rolling resistance, air resistance, transmission efficiency, transmission gear ratios, camshaft profile, etc. Hi if it is in top gear at this speed it must consume more as the enginge is revolving at a higher revolutions per minute at 70 mph than it would be at 60 mph. The car will use more fuel at the higher speed. Whoever marked marked you wrong for saying that it does not use more fuel does not deserve to be doing the job. The key thing is that the air drag on the car changes with the square of speed. SO small changes in speed lead to big increases in fuel used. All the other factors are there but they really dont change anywhere near as much

Porsche . How to Replace the Headlight Bulbs for a 1997 F150

The 1997 Ford F-150 uses a dual-beam composite headlight system. When a headlight burns out, the owner only needs to replace one bulb on each side of the vehicle, instead of multiple bulbs or even the entire headlight assembly, as is the case on other vehicles. Replacement headlight bulbs for the 1997 Ford F-150 are available at auto-parts shops. Owners can replace the bulbs without tools.
Difficulty:Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Replacement bulb Model No. 9007

Step by Step :
1
Open the hood and examine the back of the headlight assembly in the engine compartment. You will see two black retaining clips, which are used to hold the headlight assembly in the truck's body.
2
Push the tops of the clips toward the back of the engine compartment to disengage the lock and pull up on the clips to release the headlight assembly.
3
Pull the headlight assembly out of the front of the Ford F-150 and pull the electrical connector out of the back of the headlight bulb.
4
Twist the bulb retaining ring to the left and pull outward to remove it from the bulb.
5
Remove the bulb from the assembly by pulling it straight out.
6
Insert the new bulb in the assembly and attach the retaining ring by placing it over the replacement bulb and turning it to the right.
7
Plug the electrical connector into the back of the headlight bulb.
8
Slide the headlight assembly into the Ford F-150, taking care to place it on the support ribs on both sides of the assembly.
9
Press down on the headlight assembly retaining clips to secure the assembly to the vehicle.

Step by Step :
10
Repeat Steps 2 through 9 to replace the other headlight.

Porsche . How to Replace Headlight Bulbs on a Subaru

Replacing your headlight bulbs is something many car owners can go years without doing, but when the situation arises on a long nighttime drive, it is not something that can be put off for later. With a little preparation, any Subaru owner can easily change his own headlight bulbs and be back on the road in a few minutes.
Difficulty:Easy
Instructions Things You'll Need
Replacement headlight bulbs
ScrewdriverReplacing Your Headlights

Step by Step :
1
Purchase a pair of the correct replacement headlight bulbs for your Subaru's make and model. Check your owner's manual if you are unsure which type you need. If you have further trouble, you can visit your local auto-parts store, and they can look up your car in their system. Keep the replacement bulbs in your glove compartment in case of an emergency.
2
Open your owner's manual to the section that deals with headlight replacement, and review to be sure you understand your vehicle's configuration. Open the hood and be sure you have adequate lighting on the engine components.
3
Unclip the air intake fasteners on the driver's side just behind the headlight. You may need to use a screwdriver. Remove the air intake and set it aside or slide it over if possible. If working on the passenger side headlamp, remove or move the washer tank if necessary, depending on your model.
4
Rotate the bulb cover counterclockwise and detach it from the headlight assembly. Remove the lighting unit for the particular bulb that must be replaced. Twist the old bulb out of its socket and replace it with the new bulb.
5
Test the new headlight to make sure it works before replacing any parts removed previously. Replace all engine parts to their original positions and close the hood.
Tips & Warnings
Many packages recommend changing both bulbs (right and left) if one goes out, but car experts disregard that advice, as your other headlight bulb could last for many more years.

Always do under-the-hood maintenance with the engine off and the key removed to avoid an electrical shock.

sand was removed when the engine block was cast. If you see leaks or rusty streaks leading away from the core plugs on your engine block, or signs that leaks from them have dried, and you've been losing liquid lately, you may need to have the core plugs replaced. Your best bet is to seek professional help on this one. If replacing them is a high-ticket item, get a second opinion. Internal leaks Sometimes a leak right under the cylinder head can be the result of an ill-fitting gasket or the fact that the bolts that hold the cylinder head on the engine block are too loose or too tight. If you try to tighten these bolts Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn !? 1 *7 yourself, you may damage the gasket, so the best thing to do is to get professional help here. If a mechanic only has to tighten the bolts, the cost is minimal. <\V ^"~~~ Even if the gasket needs replacing and you can't do the job yourself, you're still ahead if you go to a professional with a good idea of what's wrong and what it'll take to correct the problem. (Don't tell the technician what to do; ask whether it would be wise to try tightening the bolts instead of replacing the gasket immediately.) 712 Car Insurance 2007 honda civic dxsedan4d 408660

With today's aluminum cylinder heads, it's quite possible that your cylinder head may have small cracks that are allowing coolant to leak internally. If this is the case, usually you'll notice thick, white smoke from the tailpipe and/or engine oil that looks like a mocha milkshake. Also, vehicles with automatic transmissions have a transmission cooler inside the radiator that can leak. When it leaks, coolant mixes with the transmission fluid, making your transmission fluid look like a strawberry milkshake. Both problems require professional help. Leaky u/aterpump Often, a water pump that's about to break down sends out noisy warning signals and then starts to leak before it goes completely. You can check your pump either by shaking the fan belt pulley — when the engine is shut off— to make the pump rattle, or by removing the fan belt that drives the water pump, and running the engine to see whether the noise stops. If it does, the water pump is the noisy culprit. ~ On some overhead cam engines, the water pump is behind the timing cover and is driven by the timing belt, making inspection difficult. Leave those to a professional. If the pump is leaking in the front where it rotates with the belt, you must replace it (the next section tells you how). If the leak is around the gasket that lies between the water pump and the engine, you may be able to stop it by tightening the bolts that hold the water pump in place. If tightening the bolts doesn't do the job, then you probably need a new pump. Replacing a water pump is a lot easier than fixing one. If a rebuilt or remanufactured pump is available for your vehicle, you may be able to get one for about half the price of a new one. Be sure to ask for a 90-day written guarantee. Because you have to pay labor charges to have the pump installed by a mechanic, if you replace yours yourself, you're still way ahead of the deal whether you buy a rebuilt pump or a new one. !? 1 C Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System If the work seems like too much of a challenge, by all means have a professional do it for you. But call around for prices on a rebuilt water pump first, and bring the rebuilt pump to the mechanic. Make sure that the pump is designed for your vehicle's make, model, and year, comes with a gasket that matches the old one, and has at least a three-month warranty. If you want to do the job yourself, follow these steps:

1. Remove the radiator pressure cap and place a clean 2- or 3-gallon container under the radiator. 2. Remove the fan Of applicable) and the fan belts by following the instructions later in this chapter.

4. Disconnect the hoses that lead to and from the pump. Consult the sections on hoses and hose clamps earlier in this chapter. If the hose clamps look funky or brittle, replace them with new ones of the gear type shown earlier in Figure 14-8. 5. Remove any brackets or components that are blocking access to the water pump, and unscrew the bolts that hold the water pump hi place. Be sure to lay down everything you've removed in the order in which you removed it, with each part facing the same direction as it was on the car. This way, you can put everything back in reverse order, with no guessing about which end was up or which bolt went where. Chapter 1 has instructions for taking anything apart and getting it back together again. 6. Remove the pump and its gasket. Scrape the spot clean and finish off the job with some sandpaper. Use an adhesive/sealant to attach the new gasket to the water pump. Allow the sealant to dry before installing the pump.

Porsche . How do you know if your 94 golf needs a new accelerater cable?

*
7. Replace the pump, bolts, hoses, fan, and fan belt, and then fill the system with a 50/50 mixture of water and coolant. If the liquid you drained from the system was clean, and you changed the coolant less than a year ago, you can reuse it. If not, save yourself money and labor by flushing the system at the same time, following the instructions earlier in this chapter. 8. Replace the radiator cap and bleed the air out of the system, if necessary. Your owner's manual should tell you whether bleeding a system is necessary, and how to do so. 9. Run the engine while you check for leaks. . Chapter 14: Keeping Your Car from Getting Heartburn 2 t Q Pressure-testing the cooling system If you can't locate the source of a leak and your vehicle is losing liquid from the cooling system on a regular basis, drive to your service station and ask the attendants to test the pressure in your cooling system. They'll probably use a cooling system pressure tester to do so. The tool is inexpensive, and the test involves very little time or labor, so a friendly technician may do the test for nothing. While you're at it, have the technician pressure-test the radiator pressure cap as well. If you have an old vehicle that hasn't had its cooling system serviced or rebuilt in a long time, pressure-testing the system may dislodge the deposits
